I have posted several times about oatmeal on Healthful Sense.
That’s because we eat a ton of oatmeal around here!
Serves 4-5 people (enough for the whole family in the morning)
1 1/2 cup oats
2 cups water
1 cup almond milk
1 tbsp. chia seeds
cinnamon
Optional toppings – almonds, banana slices, blueberries, raisins, sunflower seeds, peanut butter, etc.
You can either put the ingredients together in a large bowl and let soak overnight or cook in the morning by stovetop, crock pot, or microwave. The overnight method is a great way to manage a busy schedule by having breakfast ready for you in the morning. It just takes a minute to throw everything together – less time than it takes you to brush and floss your teeth.
I like to keep my oatmeal pretty tame (just almonds and blueberries) but my husband and my boys like to add peanut butter, banana slices, and honey.
This morning the baby had home-made mashed bananas and blueberries. Looks appetizing… she ate it all!
Off to start the day. Thank you all for stopping by
I have a couple of giveaways in the works so make sure to subscribe by email or rss so you don’t miss them!
Sincerely,
Lisa Rainer

Oatmeal is one of my kids favorite breakfasts. I usually cook it w/ vanilla soy milk and cinnamon, then top it off with sliced bananas. I like to add chia seeds to mine too, but my kids aren’t convinced…yet
I added chia seeds to my kids oatmeal the last few days and so far they haven’t said anything
I’m just going to keep quiet about it for now.
That looks delightful! And made all the more appetizing by the artful arrangement of healthy goodies.
Tried peanut butter with flax seed from trader joes in my oatmeal today….yummy! Never would have thought to try that do thanks!!
[...] Oatmeal with bananas + blueberries + almonds [...]
Gonna try this tomorrow morning for breakfast: looks yummy!!!

It is super yummy =) Lately if I’m making it for the kiddos I’ll use just unsweetened vanilla almond milk… so 3 cups of almond milk, no water.
found your site in a google search for use of chia seeds – I am currently training to become a MnemeTherapist (www.artwithoutboundaries.net) and learning healthy eating habits are part of the curriculum – coming from WI this is harder for me as I am a good German country girl. But 4 kids later and I need to lose a few pounds and get healthier (had breast cancer 4 years ago)and chia is one of my new friends!!
Why will 1/2 milk 1/2 water be better then all milk. Do you use old fashion or instant oatmeal. Do you cook with all ingredients or add after you cook. Bill
You can use all milk for a creamier texture. It’s up to you. I like to use 1/2 water, 1/2 milk. I use the old fashioned oats from Trader Joe’s. And I cook with all ingredients.
