Home-made Green Cleaning Recipes For A Healthy Home

It can feel overwhelming when you first start to cut down on commercial cleaners, but making your own cleaners is actually very easy and inexpensive — and it will give you peace of mind to remove hazardous chemicals from your household.

I started making home-made non-toxic cleaners when I became pregnant with my first child.  I didn’t want to put my baby at risk by breathing in the toxic fumes of commercial cleaners or from chemicals that absorb through skin.

Remember to wear gloves when you clean to protect your skin and keep all cleaners out of the reach of children because they are harmful if ingested.

General Multipurpose Cleaner

  • 32 ounce spray bottle
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 3 cups warm water
  • 10 drops tea tree oil
  • 10 drops lemon juice

For a general multipurpose cleaner fill a large 32-ounce spray bottle with 1 cup vinegar and 3 cups of warm water (1/4 cup vinegar for each cup of water).  Add about 10 drops of tea tree oil and 10 drops of lemon juice.

Toilet, Shower, Tub & Sink Cleaner

To clean your toilet, shower, tub, and sink first spray the area with the multipurpose cleaner, sprinkle with baking soda and scrub.  The dirt and stains will come right off.

Mirror & Window Cleaner

  • 32 ounce spray bottle
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1/8 cup rubbing alcohol
  • Fill the rest of spray bottle with water (about 3 cups)

This window cleaner works as well as any commercial window cleaners!

Drain Cleaner

Pour equal amounts of vinegar and baking soda in the drain, let sit for 15 minutes, and then flush with hot water.

Furniture Polish

Mix 3/4 cup olive oil and 1/4 cup vinegar in a spray bottle.  Use a soft cloth and rub into wood.

Once you start using safe non-toxic cleaners you’ll never go back to using harmful chemicals!  You can also check out Amazon for non-toxic green cleaning products.
