“Was it living at one time?”
This is a good question to ask when you are trying to determine if something is “healthy.”
Healthy foods are whole and real foods that were at one time living or derived from something that was living — fruits, vegetables, whole-grains, nuts, seeds, beans, meat, fish, eggs, and some dairy products, like yogurt.
As often as you can, choose foods that are:
- organic
- meats from free-range, grass-fed animals
- eggs from cage-free hens.
Limit processed and refined foods, which are often filled with additives, preservatives and other unhealthy ingredients. These foods may be labeled as “healthy” and have health claims like “low-fat” but this does not mean that they are healthy for your body.
Check out the “My Eats” section on my blog where I write about healthy foods that we prepare at our home. Most of the meals are simple and quick because I don’t like complicated recipes.
